Ijebu Gehl's Reading List...

Book Review:

E.C Osundo~Voice of America
Being a lover of short stories, this book appealed to me due to the mere fact that it was a collection of short stories by a Nigerian author. And that the author won the Caine prize (I love reading the Caine prize collections).

I am usually one to judge a book by its cover and the cover, although being nothing to write home about had me curious. I'm not one to read the summary at the back or read the first and last  fewpages of a book. On the contrary, I find that in a way is like cheating i.e. knowing what is at the end of the book without going on the journey with the author and reading how they intended the story to be.

Short stories on the other hand, mostly leave you speculating, or sad or hoping the best happened, or angry at the author for not finishing the story well.
Although it happened a few times with Voice of America, the writer's writing style was so good, I surprisingly didn't mind.
The 18 stories told of life from varying points of view, all connected with the motiff of America, or rather something American. this could be a tshirt, a person or the location in general, I half cried in some stories and laughed my Nigerian behind off in others..
What can I say?
It was a good read.
